Moving to new hardware with Windows 2000 is not as easy as with Server 2003 or 2008 /R2, but it is possible.

Before moving (on the old hardware), run the batch file which you can get from here. Otherwise you maybe get errors like “inaccessible boot device”.

Clone your existing HDD or make a backup.

On the new hardware, have a look at your BIOS IDE settings. In my case with an Intel Server board I had to set “Legacy IDE mode”. Otherwise the startup logo freezes at about half of the loading process.

After these steps you should be able to log in and install the drivers of your new hardware.

If not, you can try booting via Windows Server 2000 install CD and select the automatic repair mode.
