I saw this problem when listening to a WMA webstream for a few hours. The audio output suddenly stopped and CPU usage of audiodg.exe was very high.
There are several ways so solve it:
* (Disable all microphones)
(Didn’t work in my case, I got a bluescreen – but it is worth a try on other systems.)
* Disable sound enhancements of all sound cards
Control Panel -> Sounds -> Double click on your sound card(s) -> Disable all enhancements. According to several forum threads, you shouldn’t hear a difference of sound quality.
You can also try to deactivate the 2 checkboxes in the last tab (exclusive mode).
* Install MS Hotfix 1
* Install MS Hotfix 2
* Update (or change) drivers of your sound card(s).
* Disable SystemSoundService process
Open Planned Tasks -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Multimedia. Stop and deactivate the process „SystemSoundService“.
